Output
GSDP growth
Year-over-year growth of gross state domestic product, nominal and real side by side. The vertical gap between the two lines is roughly the price effect each year.
Year-over-year %. Nominal (solid) counts current-price rupees; Real (dashed) uses RBI/MoSPI constant 2011–12 GSDP (not CPI-deflated), from 2013. Dotted lines are growth on RBI’s older 2004–05 base (2006–2015), computed within that base and shown separately — never spliced across the 2015 revision.
Scale
GSDP level
The absolute size of the state economy in nominal and real terms. Toggle ₹ / $ in the header to convert; Real is constant 2011–12 GSDP.
₹ lakh crore (Real = constant 2011–12), display-converted when $ is selected. Nominal (solid) and Real (dashed) run from 2012. Dotted lines are RBI’s older 2004–05-base GSDP (2005–2015), shown separately because the 2015 accounts revision makes the bases non-comparable — never joined.
Revenue
State own-tax revenue
Taxes the state raises itself (SGST, stamp duty, excise) — its fiscal self-reliance. Current prices only.
₹ lakh crore, current prices (no constant-price series is published). Converts with the ₹ / $ toggle.
Debt
Outstanding liabilities
The stock of state debt — market loans, central loans, provident funds. Current prices only.
₹ lakh crore, current prices. Converts with the ₹ / $ toggle.
Balance
Gross fiscal deficit / GSDP
The annual borrowing requirement as a share of the state economy — the headline fiscal-discipline gauge tracked against FRBM targets.
Gross fiscal deficit as % of GSDP. FX-invariant. The solid line divides by the 2011–12-base GSDP; the dotted line divides the same deficit by RBI’s older 2004–05-base GSDP (2005–2015), shown separately because the bases are non-comparable.
Prosperity
Per-capita NSDP
Net state domestic product per person — the closest single proxy for average living standards — nominal and real together.
₹ per person (Real = constant 2011–12). Shown in ₹ only; the $ toggle does not apply. Nominal (solid) and Real (dashed) run from 2012. Dotted lines are RBI’s older 2004–05-base per-capita NSDP (2005–2015), shown separately across the 2015 revision — never spliced.
Methodology & data notes
What these series are
- Compiled from the RBI Handbook of Statistics on Indian States (MoSPI State Accounts as cross-check): GSDP (current and constant 2011–12), per-capita NSDP, state own-tax revenue, outstanding liabilities, and gross fiscal deficit.
- State Realmeans RBI/MoSPI’s published constant 2011–12 GSDP — nota CPI-deflated re-expression like the national dashboard. The 2022–23 base toggle therefore does not apply here. GSDP, GSDP-growth and per-capita charts plot nominal and real together; the Nominal / Real header toggle selects the basis for the summary tiles.
Conventions & caveats
- Year label Y denotes Indian fiscal year (Y−1)/Y — so 2025is FY 2024–25. Levels are in ₹ lakh crore; per-capita NSDP is in ₹ per person.
- Missing years render as gaps and are never interpolated or extrapolated. The dotted lines are RBI’s older 2004–05-base back-series (2005–2015), shown unjoined from the 2011–12-base series because the 2015 accounts revision makes the two bases non-comparable — toggle them with the Pre-2015 switch.
- Own-tax revenue and outstanding liabilities are current-price only. The ₹ / $ toggle converts level series at the annual average INR/USD rate; growth rates and GSDP ratios are unchanged, and per-capita NSDP is shown in ₹ only.
