Output

GSDP growth

Year-over-year growth of gross state domestic product. Real growth uses RBI/MoSPI constant 2011–12 GSDP; nominal counts current-price rupees.

Year-over-year %, per state. Real = constant 2011–12 GSDP (not CPI-deflated). The solid line is the 2011–12-base series (from 2013); the dotted line is growth on RBI’s older 2004–05 base (2006–2015), computed within that base and shown separately — never spliced across the 2015 revision.

Scale

GSDP level

The absolute size of each state economy. Toggle Nominal / Real and ₹ / $ in the header to change price basis and currency.

₹ lakh crore (constant 2011–12 in Real view), display-converted when $ is selected. The solid line is the current 2011–12-base series (from 2012); the dotted line is RBI’s older 2004–05-base GSDP (2005–2015), shown separately because the 2015 accounts revision makes the two bases non-comparable — they are never joined.

Revenue

State own-tax revenue

Taxes a state raises itself (VAT/GST share, stamp duty, excise) — its fiscal self-reliance. Current prices only.

₹ lakh crore, current prices (no constant-price series is published). Converts with the ₹ / $ toggle.

Debt

Outstanding liabilities

The stock of state debt — market loans, central loans, provident funds. Current prices only.

₹ lakh crore, current prices. Converts with the ₹ / $ toggle.

Balance

Gross fiscal deficit / GSDP

The annual borrowing requirement as a share of the state economy — the headline fiscal-discipline gauge tracked against FRBM targets.

Gross fiscal deficit as % of GSDP. FX-invariant — unaffected by the ₹ / $ toggle. The solid line divides by the 2011–12-base GSDP; the dotted line divides the same deficit by RBI’s older 2004–05-base GSDP (2005–2015), shown separately because the bases are non-comparable.

Prosperity

Per-capita NSDP

Net state domestic product per person — the closest single proxy for average state living standards.

₹ per person (constant 2011–12 in Real view). Shown in ₹ only; the $ toggle does not apply to per-capita figures. The solid line is the 2011–12-base series (from 2012); the dotted line is RBI’s older 2004–05-base per-capita NSDP (2005–2015), shown separately across the 2015 revision — never spliced.

Methodology & data notes

What these series are

  • Compiled from the RBI Handbook of Statistics on Indian States (MoSPI State Accounts as cross-check): GSDP (current and constant 2011–12), per-capita NSDP, state own-tax revenue, outstanding liabilities, and gross fiscal deficit.
  • State Realmeans RBI/MoSPI’s published constant 2011–12 GSDP — nota CPI-deflated re-expression like the national dashboard. The 2022–23 base toggle therefore does not apply here.

Conventions & caveats

  • Year label Y denotes Indian fiscal year (Y−1)/Y — the everyday end-year reading, so 2025is FY 2024–25. (The national dashboard labels a fiscal year by its start year, so a given label is offset by one between the two views.) Levels are in ₹ lakh crore; per-capita NSDP is in ₹ per person.
  • Histories are uneven — Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Uttarakhand from 2000–01; Telangana from 2014–15; some union territories are sparse. Missing years render as gaps and are never interpolated or extrapolated.
  • Own-tax revenue and outstanding liabilities are current-price only. No per-state WPI or merchandise-trade series exist in the handbook, so those national metrics are intentionally omitted.
  • The ₹ / $ toggle converts level series (GSDP, revenue, liabilities) at the annual average INR/USD rate; growth rates and GSDP ratios are unchanged, and per-capita NSDP is shown in ₹ only.
